Unihealth Playford GP Super Clinic Opens
The Unihealth Playford GP Super Clinic was officially opened by Hon Nicola Roxon MP, Federal Minister of Health on 10th June 2011. About 60 guests attended the opening and included representatives from the University of Adelaide, University of SA, Divisions of General Practice, Community Groups and those involved with the establishment and fit out of the new facility.
At the opening, Professor Justin Beilby representing the University of Adelaide and Professor Allan Evans representing The University of South Australia spoke regarding the teaching and training responsibilities of the clinic while Dr Lorenzo Ponte, the UniHealth Playford Clinical Director, spoke regarding the clinical aspects of the facility.
Also present at the official opening were MPs Nick Champion and Tony Piccolo, Mike Brooks, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Martyn Evans, Office of Community Engagement from the University of Adelaide and Lea Stevens of the Northern Division of General Practice. Three of the new clinic's over seas trained doctors were also at the opening, namely: Dr Rajnish Garg from India and Drs Sia Cheng and Santanu Dhall from Malaysia.
Minister Roxon declared that the clinic was "a great win for the local community"
Professor Beilby said that the clinic "was a much-needed facility for the northern suburbs community. Bringing GP and allied health services together in this way will greatly improve the level of care and support available to those living in and around Playford. Moreover it is a great outcome for our students. Linking the University's broad-ranging health science teaching programs with day to day clinical services will ensure that the next generation of health professionals will benefit from the valuable and relevant experience gained from training at the Playford clinic."
The new clinic is now operating with 5 General Practitioners including 3 Doctors trained overseas, 2 Psychologists, a Physiotherapist a Pharmaceutical consultant and 3 Registered Nurses. It offers RDNS services, a pathology collection service through SA Pathology and imaging services through Benson Radiology.
The new Practice Manager, Shirley Giles, brings considerable practice management experience within the local area and has been most successful in establishing the new integrated multidisciplinary clinic. We also welcome our Psychologists, Nicole Johnson and Laura McAlpine, our Consultant Pharmacist, Rashida Denton-Sparrow, our Nurses, Tina, Sheryl and Heather and our Receptionists, Ursula, Lynda and Bec.
The local Peachey Belt Community Group led by Mrs Shirley Harris has taken a great interest in the development of the clinic and was well represented at the official opening.
The clinic is operating Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to 3:00pm.
